Tomorrow's place
fall 2019

The Tomorrows Place Project was a design project of a permanent supportive housing development. It was to be completed in two phases. The first phase was a group project and it consisted of the design of the community space. The second phase is to completed individually and consisted of the residential spaces in the building .

Brand Concept

Our Tomorrow's logo was inspired by our tagline “Today’s generation supporting Tomorrow’s generation”. The word tomorrow also relates to the future and hope. The colors and shape of our logo are also replicated throughout our design. We tried to incorporate a range of different shapes through the space and designated a color focus for each room. We used a rainbow shape branching from the word tomorrow because our color scheme was based off of muted colors of the rainbow. The muted colors mixed with the playful rainbow design creates fun but also a sense of maturity. This will combine interests for all different ages residing at Tomorrow’s Place. Keeping the design more mature will empower young adults to see their independence and growth with this new step.

Design Concept

The Tomorrows Place permanent supportive housing apartments are a child friendly, colorful space that provide living to homeless siblings. Featured are 2 and 3- bedroom layouts that give homes for them to feel safe in. The apartments feature accessible elements, vibrant colors, comfortable seating options, and room to move freely all wrapped up in a warm, open, and inviting environment. In each unit there is an entry space, dining area, kitchen, living room, bedrooms, and bathrooms. On each floor there is a community laundry space with enough washers and dryers for all units to do laundry at the same time if need be.

Every area in the residential area of Tomorrows Place comes fully furnished and provides the basic living essentials. The finishes and appliances used throughout are all sustainable and accessible provide for a healthy and universal design.

Design Concept

Tomorrow’s design choices will be based off the environment. Science proves that having a human connection with nature can make us happier and healthier individuals. With we decided to include biophilia, WELL, and LEED building standards into our space. There will be aspects that point towards animals and greenery to place those who enter the outdoors. The colors were meant to show playfulness as well as maturity because we want older siblings to know that we see them as young adults that can make decisions on their own. The WELL standard we focused on was nutrition, with that, there are many visual features to contribute to healthy eating choices. The materials, finishes, and equipment chosen contribute to LEED design standards as well to show the environmental and well-being focus throughout Tomorrow’s Place.
